Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) recently hosted a vibrant celebration of Nuakhai, the cherished agrarian festival of Western Odisha, reaffirming its commitment to preserving indigenous traditions alongside academic excellence.
The event, held on campus, brought together students, faculty, and distinguished guests in a spirited display of cultural pride. Padma Shri awardee and legendary Sambalpuri poet Dr. Haldhar Nag captivated the audience with his soulful verses, weaving emotion and heritage into every line. Renowned Odissi dancer Sashwat Joshi graced the occasion, offering blessings and pledging mentorship to aspiring dancers at KISS.
Adding to the festive spirit, Sambalpuri poet and singer Manas Sadangi eloquently narrated the historical significance of Nuakhai, while stand-up comedian Ritesh Patnaik infused the gathering with laughter and light-heartedness.
The celebration was further enriched by the presence of Prof. Achuta Samanta, Founder, KISS-KIIT and the leadership of the institutions, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Debashish Bandyopadhyay and Registrar Dr. Prashant Kumar Routray, whose support underscored the institution’s dedication to holistic development.
Students showcased a series of cultural performances that reflected the vibrancy of Western Odisha’s traditions. The day was a beautiful blend of poetry, dance, music, and community spirit—an embodiment of KISS’s mission to nurture both intellect and identity.
