On 8th August 2025, the Gender Sensitization Cell of KISS Deemed to be University, in collaboration with the Centre for Women’s Studies and the School of Tribal Legal Studies and Tribal Rights (STLSTR), organized a Gender Sensitization Programme at the Auditorium, KISS Campus-4, 04:00 PM. This initiative was part of the university’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a more inclusive and equitable academic and social environment. The programme aimed to raise awareness about gender-related issues and promote active engagement in addressing gender disparities through education and dialogue. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse academic audience, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral scholars, as well as faculty members from various departments.
The session commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Pragyan Mohanty, Dean of the School of Tribal Legal Studies and Tribal Rights and Convenor of the Gender Sensitization Cell, who emphasized the importance of fostering a gender-just society through awareness and policy implementation. The Vice Chancellor of KISS-DU followed with a compelling address that traced the historical evolution of gender roles and highlighted the need to dismantle regressive structures through informed educational practices. The resource persons were then felicitated by the Chairperson of the event in recognition of their contributions to gender studies and social justice.
Ms. Bhanuati Biswal delivered a concise yet impactful presentation on gender justice, shedding light on systemic inequalities and advocating for a rights-based approach to development. The programme’s highlight was an engaging session led by Professor Namita Mohanty, Professor Emerita, and Ms. Sunanda Mohanty, Faculty Member at KISS-DU. They provided a comprehensive overview of gender sensitization, discussing the role of education, legal awareness, institutional support, and cultural reform, while also elaborating on existing legal frameworks and policies in India that safeguard gender rights.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Barsha Biswal, Assistant Professor and Member of the Gender Sensitization Cell, who expressed gratitude to all contributors and participants. Overall, the programme proved to be a deeply enriching experience, enhancing understanding of gender issues and reinforcing the university’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and gender-sensitive academic environment aligned with national and global standards.
