The Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University observed World Blood Donor Day on June 14, 2025, reinforcing its commitment to humanitarian service and youth engagement. This annual event, recognized globally, provided an opportunity to acknowledge the vital role of voluntary blood donors in saving lives and ensuring a sustainable supply of blood for those in need. At KISS-DU, where social responsibility and service form the bedrock of its institutional values, the observance was more than an event—it was an embodiment of the university’s mission to inspire young minds toward compassionate action.

The student volunteers of YRC Unit KISS-DU actively participated in various awareness and engagement activities, ensuring the message of “Give Blood, Give Hope – Together We Save Lives” resonated throughout the institution and beyond. The day commenced with a blood donation drive, where several students, including first-time donors, contributed alongside regular donors to turn their theoretical understanding into a tangible act of kindness. This initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Odisha State Red Cross, ensuring medical supervision and proper guidance for the participants. By donating blood, these young volunteers demonstrated a commitment to addressing blood shortages, especially for vulnerable communities.

To further amplify the awareness campaign, student volunteers organized a rally across the university premises, raising slogans that underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation. The rally served as a strong visual representation of the collective determination of KISS-DU students to contribute to social good. Alongside this, interactive sessions with experienced donors and resource persons were held, allowing students to listen to firsthand accounts of how blood donation has directly impacted lives. These discussions inspired many new donors to step forward and pledge their commitment to this life-saving act.

Recognizing that awareness needs creative engagement to make a lasting impact, students participated in painting competitions and thought-expressing activities centered around the theme of blood donation. Through artistic expression and discussions, they articulated the significance of contributing to this noble cause, making the campaign more relatable and emotionally compelling for their peers. The interactive format encouraged reflection and sparked conversations that extended beyond the campus, influencing the larger community.

The success of the observance was evident not only in the immediate participation of students but also in the pledges made by many to become regular blood donors and encourage others within their circles. The event also reinforced KISS-DU’s broader mission of empowering tribal communities through service and education, with YRC volunteers emerging as role models who inspire both their fellow students and the larger tribal population to embrace humanitarian values.

Through these collective efforts, KISS-DU has strengthened its engagement in public health and social welfare initiatives, reinforcing its dedication to building a compassionate, service-driven society.
