SDG1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere

  • Eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere
  • Reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions
  • Implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all
  • Ensure that all men and women have equal rights to ownership, basic services, economic resources, natural resources, new technology and financial services.
  • Build the resilience to climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters
    • Ensure significant mobilization of resources to implement programmes and policies to end poverty in all its dimensions
    • Create sound policy frameworks to support accelerated investment in poverty eradication actions.

Activities Undertaken

  • Providing free education, food, clothing, healthcare, and accommodation to over 80,000 tribal children (30,000 in Bhubaneswar campus, 40,000 alumni and 10,000 students in satellite centres). By focusing on the education of children from poor and marginalized communities, KISS addresses both immediate and inter-generational poverty. The institute’s comprehensive support system ensures that these children have the opportunity to break free from the poverty cycle and build a better future.
  • Offering wide spread multi-faceted vocational training covering a range of skills
  • Implementing a unique ‘ Earn while you learn’ program to enable students to earn supplemental Income alongside their studies.
  • Actively working with tribal and rural communities to promote economic empowerment through initiatives such as sustainable agriculture, micro-enterprises, and self-help groups and programmes designed to increase the income and resilience of these communities, reducing poverty at the grassroots level.
  • Community outreach and extension programs focusing on building local capacities, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and improving access to resources and services, thereby enhancing the economic security of the communities it serves are being organized.
  • KISS advocates for policies and programs that address the needs of marginalized and impoverished communities. Through its educational and outreach efforts, the institute raises awareness about the importance of poverty eradication and the need for inclusive development.
  • The institute also collaborates with government agencies, various UN Agencies NGOs, policy makers, civil society organizations and other organizations to mobilize resources and support for poverty reduction initiatives.
  • Implementing academic interventions at KISS-DU to carry out research capacity building activities on indigenous livelihoods and sustainable food systems and incorporation of this component to the syllabi.
