Anti-Ragging Day (12 August 2024) and Anti-Ragging Week (12–18 August 2024) were observed at KISS Deemed to be University, Odisha, with great enthusiasm and a firm commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus. The University conducted various awareness sessions, workshops, and interactive sessions to educate students about the negative impacts of ragging and the consequences of engaging in such activities. These events  were jointly organized by the University Anti-Ragging Cell; Anti-Ragging Squad in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell.

Events Organized:

  • Introduction/Orientation Programme: Awareness against ragging was initiated through Induction Programme for the first year UG students was held on 12.08.2024, which included an informative session by Snigdharani Panda, Chairperson Council of Deans and Dr. Srinibas Panda, Controller of Examinations. Dr. Snigdharani Panda informed the students of the menace of ragging and highlighted the importance of eradicating ragging from educational institutions. Dr. Srinibas Panda, Controller of Examinations, apprised the students on the legal and disciplinary consequences of ragging, and stressed the need for a compassionate and respectful campus culture. The students were encouraged to report any instances of ragging to the anti-ragging committee/cell/squad appropriate authorities for immediate action. The event provided insights into how to identify and report incidents of ragging, ensuring that every student is aware of the support mechanisms which are in place. Students from various departments participated in the event, showcasing their understanding and support for the cause through speeches. Dr. Panda in his deliberation also assured that the confidentiality of the matter shall be maintained.
  • One Day Anti Ragging Workshop: A one day workshop on anti ragging was conducted for the final year PG students of KISS Deemed to be University was organised on 13.08.2024. Videos on ragging and its negative impacts were shown to the students, highlighting the importance of fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity where all individuals feel valued and supported. The students were also appreciated for their active participation in eradicating ragging in the campus and strong commitment toward fostering a harmonious and inclusive campus environment.
  • Anti Ragging Pledge: The Anti Ragging Week concluded with a pledge/ oath-taking ceremony held on 18.08.2024, where students pledged to stand against ragging and to promote a culture of empathy and inclusiveness within the university.

The activity week further solidified the students’ dedication to upholding a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and creating a supportive community for all. The University administration with a commitment from both students and staff to continue working together, also reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against any instances of ragging reported on campus. The events also served as a reminder that the fight against ragging requires collective effort and vigilance from all members of the university community. Moving forward, ongoing education and awareness campaigns will be implemented to prevent any future incidents of ragging on campus.
