The Human Resource Development Centre and the School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures, KISS-DU jointly organized an international seminar on the topic Ethnicity and Social Stratification in India and Sri Lanka on 27th February 2023. Senior Functionaries, Faculties, Scholars and Students attended the seminar. Shri Daya Dissanayake, bilingual poet, novelist and critic from Sri Lanka was invited as Distinguished Invited Speaker
Delivering the inaugural address, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor KISS-DU offered a warm welcome to the speaker of the seminar and threw light on the global image and cosmic importance of KISS-DU and also stressed for combined effort in various fields by the universities of both Sri Lanka and India. He also added that all the scholars should get involved in the study of ethnicity and social stratification.
Introducing the speaker, Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Director, Human Resource Development Centre and the Head of English Programme, KISS-DU spoke about the contributions of the esteemed speaker. Dr. Bhoi emphasized on the necessity of such programmes to achieve pinnacle of success in academics.
Delivering the lecture, Daya Dissanayake, spoke on the similarities and dissimilarities of different ethnic groups of India and Sri Lanka. According to him Sri Lanka has no such social stratification and tribal issues like India. He mentions that Sri Lanka faces less gender and racial discrimination. He added that there is less problems related to nationalism where all of Sri Lankans fought for their freedom unitedly unlike India and advised the audience to come together in this regard.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Kanhu Charan Mahali, Director General, KISS-DU delivered the concluding remarks.
