The Department of Sanskrit, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures, KISS Deemed to be University, celebrated World Sanskrit Day on 28th August 2026, which coincided with the full-moon day of the month of Śrāvaṇa. The programme was attended by students and teachers from the School of Tribal Languages and Literature (SCTLL), KISS-DU.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Biraj Krushna Mishra, HoD, Department of Sanskrit. He introduced the guests and explained the importance of this celebration. Dr. Trupti Mishra, former HoD, Department of Sanskrit welcomed the gathering and emphasized the significance of Sanskrit as an important component of India’s linguistic and cultural heritage. Dr. Snigdha Rani Panda, Joint Registrar, KISS-DU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She congratulated the students and encouraged them to bring out their creative potential by engaging with Sanskrit literature and its rich intellectual tradition.
The Department of Sanskrit, School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures (SCTLL), KISS Deemed to be University, celebrated World Sanskrit Day on 28 August 2026, coinciding with the full-moon day of the month of Śrāvaṇa. The programme was attended by students, scholars, and faculty members of SCTLL and marked the beginning of a week-long series of academic and cultural activities dedicated to promoting Sanskrit language, literature, and heritage.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Biraj Krushna Mishra, HoD, Department of Sanskrit, who explained the importance of World Sanskrit Day and introduced the distinguished guests. Dr. Trupti Mishra, former HoD, Department of Sanskrit, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the role of Sanskrit in preserving India’s linguistic and cultural heritage. The Chief Guest, Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Joint Registrar, KISS-DU, encouraged students to explore the rich intellectual and literary traditions of Sanskrit. Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Dean, SCTLL, captivated the audience by discussing India’s linguistic traditions and reciting selected Sanskrit verses, while Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, Associate Professor, Department of English, emphasized the collective responsibility of preserving and promoting Sanskrit. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Sri Om Prakash Das, followed by the chanting of Śānti Pāṭha. Students and scholars enriched the celebration through Sanskrit speeches and songs, making the event intellectually engaging and culturally vibrant.
Following the observance of World Sanskrit Day, the Department organized a series of competitions and activities throughout Sanskrit Week, including essay writing, speech, verse recitation, quiz competitions, and cultural programmes. The celebrations culminated on 3 September 2026 with a grand valedictory programme featuring an exhibition of rare Sanskrit books, a cultural rally, and a prize distribution ceremony.
The book exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Dean, SCTLL, and Dr. Srinibas Panda, COE, KISS. Students of SCTLL enthusiastically participated in the cultural rally. The presence of Sri Rudrakesh Jena, Director of Sports, and Dr. Maitri Padhy, Vice-Principal, KISS, inspired and encouraged the participants.
During the valedictory session, Mrs. Debahuti Pattnaik, Assistant Professor, Odia, motivated students by reciting well-known Sanskrit expressions such as“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and“Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah.” Dr. Rasmita Tripathy, HoD, Odia, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of Sanskrit in safeguarding the cultural identity, heritage, and intellectual traditions of Bharat.
The winners of various competitions were felicitated by Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Joint Registrar, and Prof. Jyotirmaya Mohanty, Senior Professor. The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Biraj Krushna Mishra, HoD, Sanskrit, who also coordinated the week-long celebrations. Sri Om Prakash Das, Lecturer in Sanskrit, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the recitation of a Sanskrit song.
Faculty members, scholars, and distinguished guests, including Dr. Trupti Mishra, Dr. Sukanti Behera, Dr. Gobinda Soren, Dr. Shakuntala Mahapatra, Sri Om Prakash Das, and Ph.D. scholars, actively participated in the celebrations. Their support contributed significantly to the success of the events. The combined observance of World Sanskrit Day and Sanskrit Week provided a meaningful platform to reflect on the enduring relevance of Sanskrit and its invaluable contribution to India’s linguistic, literary, philosophical, and cultural heritage.
