The Department of Geography, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM) KISS-DU successfully organised a vibrant two-day programme on 22nd and 25th April 2025 to observe World Earth Day 2025, aligned with the global theme “OUR POWER, OUR PLANET.” The event aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need to transit to renewable energy and emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals, communities, and institutions in addressing environmental challenges. The activities organized under the banner of Earth Day were thoughtfully mapped with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations with special emphasis on goal 6, 7 13 and 15.
The first day of the event featured a poster making and painting competition where students expressed their ideas and concerns about clean energy, sustainability, and environmental conservation through creative artwork. A specially designed selfie point with impactful Earth Day messages created an engaging space for participants to reflect on their commitment to protecting the planet.
The second day was marked by a series of captivating role plays and skits performed by UG and PG 1st-year students as well as Ph.D. research scholars. Led by our Research Scholars Nikky Kujur, Manisha Laguri, Gyanendra, Dusmnata Majhi, Durjan Sabar, Santosh Kandamaka, Himanshu Dharwa, Nishikanta Naik, Akash Pradhan, the performances focused on themes such as climate change, the significance of renewable resources, and individual responsibility in preserving the environment. With powerful messages like “Save Our Planet,” “Save Trees,” and “Act Now for a Greener Tomorrow,” the presentations left a strong impact on the audience.
The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, graced by the Professor Debashis Bandyopadhyay, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of KISS-DU. He praised the students’ enthusiastic participation and creativity and delivered an inspiring speech encouraging them to continue working towards a sustainable and greener future.
The successful organization of the programme was made possible through the guidance and support of Dr. Arpana Premi Line Oraon, Dean of STRM, and the dedicated efforts of the faculty team, including Dr. Monalisha Mishra, Assistant Professor and Head of the Geography Programme; Dr. Anwesha Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, Geography Department; Mrs. Saurava Goswamy, Department of Geography; Dr. Sanjeeta Devi, Assistant Professor, Economics Programme; Dr. Binita Nanda and Dr. Shruti Sudha Mishra, Assistant Professors, Commerce Programme; Dr. Sushree Panda, Assistant Professor, Department of Natural Farming; Dr. Kharabela Rout, Assistant Professor, Department of Entrepreneurship; and Dr. Somanath Mishra, Assistant Professor, Department of Renewable Resources.
Additional support came from the NEP 2020 SARATI Team, including Kusha Mandika, Jyoti Nayak, Premsingh Majhi, and Ankita Patra, and Dr. Mahot Satpathi from Science Programme. whose efforts contributed significantly to the smooth and successful execution of the event.
The Earth Day 2025 celebration at STRM-KISS DU was a resounding success, promoting awareness, teamwork, and environmental responsibility among students and faculty, and reinforcing the importance of collective action for a sustainable future.
