The week-long (3rd March to 8th march 2025) celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) concluded at KISS Deemed to be University on 8th March 2025. This was the second event organized under the lecture series. The very thoughtfully chosen topic ” Empowering Young Women through Sports: Towards building a healthy Nation” which was in-sync with this year’s theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment” celebrated the achievements and accolades of women in the field of sports.

The event was organized by the Center for Women’s Studies, under the aegis of the Project K-Muse, KISS-DU in collaboration with the Center for Folklore Studies, NSS and Rangers & Rovers Wing of KISS-DU. Eight exemplary sports persons of KISS-DU were felicitated in this event for their phenomenal performances in their respective fields. They also shared their experiences and journey to inspire other students of the University.

The event celebrated IWD by poem recital on the spirit of womanhood by the students of KISS-DU. The event also witnessed a dance drama performed by students which was coordinated by Ms. Sangeeta Parida and Dr. Nibedita Mohanty. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Pragyan Mohanty, Dean and Center Head, Center for Women’s Studies, KISS-DU. She spoke on how sports has impacted the young women of today and how KISS-DU has excelled at providing a platform to young girls. In her deliberation, she mentioned about the K3 Ladies Club, its activities and a special mention to “Patathon”, an annual marathon wearing traditional handloom for fitness and health.

Hon’ble Pro Chancellor, Professor Amareswar Galla addressed the students highlighting the importance of this day and the impact of sports on women. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU, Professor Debashis Bandyopadhyay gave an illuminating speech which highlighted the essence of women and women’s Day. Further, he also read an excerpt from Hon’ble Founder Professor Achyuta Samanta’s book “My Mother My Hero” which was heartfelt and beautifully presented.

The Registrar KISS-DU, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray spoke on the importance of young women in sports and highlighted many women oriented programs and welfare measures being plasticized in KISS-DU. Dr. Tripura Mishra, Associate Professor KISS-DU addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of women’s day. In her address she stressed on the need of practicing Yoga and meditation for mental-wellbeing.

The event concluded with a word of thanks by Dr. Rasmita Tripathy, Center Head, Center for Folklore Studies, KISS-DU.
