Kanhu Charan Purty who hails from the state of Odisha and belongs to the Ho tribe (one of the most backward Scheduled Tribes of the country) successfully defended his thesis on 11th April 2023. The title of the research was “Economic Empowerment of Tribal Community Through Marketing of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs).”  The doctoral work talks about how economic empowerment can make tribal communities financially independent and the role of NTFPs in this regard.

While sharing his experiences, he said that he completed +2 in 2009, M. Com in 2016 both from KISS and went on to pursue Ph.D. at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University in Commerce Programme in the academic session 2018-19 under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Dean, School of Tribal Resource Management and Chairperson Council of Deans, KISS-DU. Dr. Kanhu desires to work for the economic upliftment of his community and act as a change agent by spreading awareness and sensitize on issues related to economics and finance. He added that during vacations, he loves to interact with people in his village and talk about financial inclusion. He expresses his gratitude towards Hon’ble Founder KISS and KIIT, Dr. Achyuta Samanta for proving with a springboard which enabled him to complete his research work.
