Rautu Kerai hails from the state of Jharkhand and belongs to the Ho tribe which is one of the very backward Scheduled Tribes of the country. He joined Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University as a scholar of the Doctor of Philosophy in Economics in the year 2019. He has successfully completed Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Dean, School of Tribal Resource Management and the Chairperson, Council of Deans of the University on the topic “Impact of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on Tribal Development in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand”. MGNREGA is the flagship scheme of Government of India for eradication of poverty in the backward regions of the country and through his work, Rauta desires to become a change agent and contribute in eradicating poverty in his community.
