A National Seminar on the theme “Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma: Architect of Social Transformation and Inclusive Nationalism” was organised on 7th August 2026 at Conference Hall-2, Campus-3, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University (KISS-DU), Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The National Seminar was jointly organised by the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust, Assam, in collaboration with Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University. The programme commenced at 11:00 AM and brought together distinguished personalities, academicians, social representatives, faculty members, research scholars, students and other participants to deliberate upon the life, contributions and enduring relevance of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma.
The seminar was conceived as an important academic and intellectual platform to reflect on Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma’s contribution to social transformation and the idea of inclusive nationalism. The theme of the seminar highlighted the significance of social leadership, inclusivity, community development and the role of individuals and institutions in promoting a more equitable and harmonious society. The collaboration between the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust, Assam, and KISS-DU provided an opportunity to bring together academic and social perspectives and to encourage meaningful dialogue on the relevance of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma’s ideals in the contemporary context.
The formal inauguration of the seminar commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma by the distinguished guests. This ceremonial beginning symbolised the illumination of knowledge and wisdom and served as a respectful tribute to the memory and legacy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma. The lighting of the lamp and floral tribute were followed by a traditional welcome dance presented by the students of KISS-DU. The cultural performance added a vibrant and traditional dimension to the inaugural proceedings and reflected the importance attached to cultural heritage and artistic expression at KISS-DU.
The Inaugural Address by Dr. Prashanta Kumar Routray, Registrar, KISS Deemed to be University formally marked the commencement of the academic proceedings of the National Seminar. The inaugural session was followed by the felicitation of the distinguished guests. The felicitation ceremony expressed the organisers’ respect and appreciation for the eminent personalities who had joined the programme and contributed to its academic and intellectual significance.
The academic proceedings continued with an address by Shri Phatendra Basumatary, President, ABDC. His address contributed to the broader discourse surrounding the theme of the seminar and provided an important perspective on the social and community-oriented dimensions associated with Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma’s legacy.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Ajit Boro, President, Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust and recipient of the Bal Sahitya Puraskar. As President of the Trust associated with the legacy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, Dr. Boro’s address formed a significant part of the seminar. His keynote address provided an important platform for reflecting upon the contributions and ideals associated with Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and their continuing relevance to society. The keynote session also strengthened the connection between the historical legacy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and contemporary discussions on social transformation and inclusive nationalism.
The keynote address was followed by a lecture delivered by Prof. Ramesh C. Bhardwaj, Former Vice Chancellor, Maharishi Valmiki University, Haryana. His participation brought an important academic dimension to the seminar. The resource lecture provided an opportunity to examine the seminar theme from a broader scholarly perspective and encouraged participants to reflect upon the role of social thinkers, reformers and leaders in shaping social consciousness and inclusive approaches to nation-building.
Following the lecture, Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Chair Professor, Dr. B.R Ambedkar Chair, KISS-DU, delivered a special lecture. His participation further enriched the academic proceedings and strengthened the intellectual dimension of the seminar. The special lecture provided an opportunity to connect the central theme of social transformation with broader academic discussions concerning equality, social inclusion and the development of an inclusive society.
An interactive discussion and question-and-answer session was subsequently conducted. The session provided an opportunity for the participants to engage with the speakers and to seek clarification and share their perspectives on the issues discussed during the seminar. The interactive nature of the session contributed to the academic character of the programme and encouraged dialogue between the speakers and participants. It also provided a platform for deeper reflection on the relevance of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma’s ideas and contributions in the present social context.
The formal academic proceedings concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Arpana Premi Lina Oraon, Director, Research and Development Cell (R&DC), KISS-DU. In her concluding remarks, she expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests, speakers, organisers, faculty members, research scholars, students and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the National Seminar. The Vote of Thanks also marked the culmination of the principal academic proceedings of the programme.
Following the Vote of Thanks, the students of KISS-DU presented traditional dance. The cultural presentation added a fitting concluding dimension to the programme and once again reflected the richness of traditional cultural expression. The seminar formally concluded with the National Anthem, followed by a group photo session involving the distinguished guests, speakers, organisers and participants.
