The Saheed Laxman Naik Research Chair, KISS-DU observed the 82nd death anniversary of Saheed Laxman Naik on 29th March 2025. The event was graced by dignitaries, faculty members, research scholars, and students, who united to honor his supreme sacrifice for the nation.
The ceremony began with the garlanding of Laxman Naik’s statue by key university officials, including Registrar Dr. Prasanta Kumar Routray, Principal Dr. Yasabanta Das, Dean of SCTLL Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi, Laxman Naik Research Chair Dr. Sunaram Soren, and others. A notable highlight was the involvement of a student guardian in the garlanding ceremony, an appreciated and meaningful initiative. Attendees, including students and research scholars dressed in traditional cultural attire, reflected the occasion’s solemnity.
A special student seminar followed, featuring an address by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Debashis Bandopadhyay, who emphasized the importance of Laxman Naik’s sacrifice in ensuring the peace enjoyed today. He urged students to embrace patriotism and ponder the essence of true freedom in today’s society. Dr. Chittaranjan Bhoi’s keynote speech inspired students to stand against societal injustices, drawing from Rabindranath Tagore’s Freedom: Freedom from Fear.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Nibedita Mohanty, acknowledging the efforts and participation of everyone involved. This occasion served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and underscored the responsibility of the younger generation to uphold values of justice, freedom, and patriotism.
