Promoting respectful communication, gender-sensitive behaviour, and student well-being

KISS-DU organized an interaction session at the Girls’ Hostel under the University’s Gender Champion initiative. The session created a supportive space for students to share their experiences, discuss hostel-life challenges, and reflect on the importance of respectful communication, gender-sensitive conduct, and mental well-being.

Purpose of the Session

  • To understand students’ experiences of hostel life.
  • To discuss communication, behaviour, and mutual respect in shared living spaces.
  • To promote gender-sensitive attitudes and inclusive practices.
  • To address concerns related to mental well-being and available support systems.

Key Discussion Themes

1. Communication and Behaviour

The discussion emphasized that gender-sensitive communication involves politeness, empathy, respectful language, healthy boundaries, and the avoidance of stereotypes or insensitive remarks.

2. Manners and Respect

The interaction stressed that mutual respect is a core value of gender equality, as it helps prevent discrimination, harassment, and verbal aggression, thereby creating a safer and more inclusive hostel environment.

3. Mental Well-being and Support

The session highlighted the importance of emotional support, peer understanding, and non-judgmental listening. Such practices can significantly improve mental well-being and foster a supportive environment for all students, irrespective of gender.
