The School of Tribal Legal Studies and Tribal Rights (STLSTR), and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) KISS-DU jointly organized a Distinguished Invited Lecture on “With and Beyond Sociology and Indian Knowledge System” on 10th July 2024. Professor Ananta Kumar Giri, Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai was invited as the guest.
In his Welcome Address, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU emphasised on the importance of the topic which highlights not only the field of sociology but also throws light on the Indian Knowledge System and how the scholars would benefit from it. Dr. Pragyan Mohanty, Dean, STLSTR introduced the erudite speaker to the gathering.
Professor Giri in his deliberation said “To bring Indian Knowledge System to our knowledge practices. It requires a lot of work. There is justified emphasis on knowing our classical languages, like Sanskrit. But even in the National Education Policy Sanskrit is not the only classical language. National Education Policy writes about Arabic and Persian as our classical languages. But can we ever imagine that to bring Indian knowledge system to our contemporary knowledge via National Education Policy.” He strongly opined that one has to read multiple books to under Indian Knowledge System.
The deliberation was followed by a Q/A session and the meeting concluding by Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Babita Das, Assistant Professor, Sociology Programme, KISS-DU. Among others, the invited lecture was attended by the Deans, Directors, Faculty Members and Research Scholars of the University.
