The Department of Mathematics, under the School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science, and Technology (SIKST), KISS Deemed to be University, organized a Distinguished Invited Talk on the topic Balancing Numbers and Their Properties on 25th March 2025.

The event began with a welcome address by Professor Debashis Bandyopadhyay, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU, Bhubaneswar, who extended his warm greetings to the attendees. Following this, Dr. Susanta Kumar Mohapatra, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, SIKST and the coordinator of the Distinguished Invited Talk, set the tone and delivered an introduction to the event. Dr. Mohapatra emphasized that the purpose of the invited talk was to raise awareness about the various applications of Mathematics. He highlighted that mathematics is a foundational subject, not only in the sciences but also in social sciences, and it is essential to stay updated with its recent developments. He also introduced the eminent speaker, Professor Prasanta Kumar Ray, Professor of Mathematics at Sambalpur University, Odisha, India.

Speaking in turn, Professor Prasanta Kumar Ray delivered an insightful talk, elaborating on the concepts of number theory. His presentation covered various fascinating topics such as Triangular Numbers, Happy and Sad Numbers, different Theorems, Lemmas, Conjectures, and their interesting consequences. Professor Ray introduced the concept of Balancing Numbers, Balancers, and the Golden Ratio, explaining how to derive Balancing Numbers. He also discussed the latest developments in number theory and its real-world applications.

The presentation was followed by a question & answer session wherein the participants actively engaged with the speaker and sought clarification on various topics.

The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Pankajini Tripathy, Assistant Professor in Mathematics and Head of the Department who expressed gratitude to the speaker, organizing team and the participants for making the event a success.
