An insightful Industry-Academia Interface talk on “CapEx – Gap Between Practice and Theory” was conducted on 15th January 2025 at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Commerce, School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and the Center for Indigenous Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Mr. Swarup Kumar Mohanty, Head of the Finance and Accounts Department at Fabri Metal Congo SARL, Democratic Republic of Congo, as the distinguished speaker.
The session began with an introduction by the Chairperson of the Council Deans, Dr. Snigdharani Panda, who narrated briefly about the uniqueness of the university, as well as the importance of the topic for students to understand the real-world dynamics of capital expenditure. Following the introduction, the guest speaker, Mr. Swarup Kumar Mohanty, was felicitated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, as a gesture of appreciation for his presence and contribution to the event. The talk witnessed the participation of UG final-year students, postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members.
Mr. Mohanty began the session by outlining the significance of capital expenditure (CapEx) in shaping organizational growth and sustainability. He highlighted the disparities between theoretical approaches to CapEx management and real-world practices. Drawing from his extensive experience in the finance sector, he shared practical insights into how organizations manage. The session included an interactive Q&A segment, where Mr. Mohanty addressed the queries regarding global financial practices, the impact of technological advancements on CapEx management, and strategies to overcome financial bottlenecks.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Head of the Department of Commerce, Dr. Parikshita Khatua, who spoke about the urgency of addressing such relevant topics and acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders in making the event a success. The talk provided a valuable opportunity for attendees to understand the intricacies of CapEx management from an industry perspective. The program was successfully coordinated by Dr.Ch Sudipta Kishore Nanda, Assistant Professor, Commerce (STRM).
