Inclusion has been a significant driver of change, pivotal in building an equitable society. Inclusion is like water and can blend with all the small and large diversities in society, be it gender, language, economy, etc. A perfect amalgamation of all these factors will help the coming generation to collectively materialize their dreams of making a just society. This emphasizes the need for developing inclusive practices through transformative education, gender equality and active citizenship so that all the parameters
mentioned above can be achieved.

The Agenda 2030 of the United Nations has emphasized improving society by ensuring global citizenship. This target can only be achieved by developing inclusive practices across the globe. Transformative education shall play a catalytic role in translating these objectives into action.

Our world is facing unprecedented challenges like climate change, hateful ideologies, loss of biodiversity, new conflicts and the risks of global pandemics, to name a few. Education systems need to be reoriented to equip learners with the knowledge, values, and abilities to act for the betterment of all people and the planet as responsible citizens of a global community. We need to learn to read and write to build this world, but we also need to know collaboration, empathy, complex problem-solving, and connection to other human beings and nature. Education for sustainable development, global citizenship education and education for health and well-being are all central to achieving this vision and ensuring education is transformative for every student in every country .

Transformative Education revolves around teaching and learning steered to inspire, motivate and empower learners to be able to make informed decisions and actions at
three levels: self, community and global. It is expected to infuse the learners’ knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to succeed and thrive in diverse and changing societies. In the context of contemporary challenges, such as the COVID scenario, climate change, gender imbalances, and social issues, transformative education shall strive to provide a moral compass, meaning, and purpose, hence contributing to both individual and collective well-being. Education should equip learners requisite knowledge, awareness, action competencies so that the youth can act as change agents and contribute in transforming our societies into a sustainable one encircling betterment for all people, and the planet as responsible citizens of the global community. The Agenda 2030 of the United Nations can be met through the power of active citizenship.

Since its inception, UNESCO has been stressing promoting transformative education to make the world a better place to live.

In this light, KISS Deemed to be University is organizing a one-day international conference on ‘ Transformative Education, Gender Equality and Active Citizenship to acknowledge the above-mentioned domains’ role and spread awareness of it.
