A Two-Day National Seminar on “Evolution of Uniform Scientific and Technical Terminology in Indian Languages” was organized by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Education, Government of India, in collaboration with the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, New Delhi, at the Seminar Hall of the Central Water Commission (CWC), R.K. Puram, New Delhi.
The seminar was organized in pursuance of the vision of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to promote Indian languages and facilitate the development of standardized scientific and technical vocabulary across regional languages. It provided an important national platform for academicians, linguists, language experts and subject specialists to deliberate upon the possibilities and challenges of developing a uniform and accessible scientific and technical vocabulary in Indian languages.
The seminar witnessed brilliant deliberations on several significant themes, including the need for unified technical terminology in Indian languages for national progress, practical possibilities and multilingual challenges; principles of coining scientific and technical terminology and their role in developing a uniform vocabulary across Indian languages; Anubadini and language terminology as a new direction for scientific and technical terminology development; and scientific and technical terminology development in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Eminent experts and academicians representing reputed institutions such as the University of Hyderabad, CSM University, Navi Mumbai, NEAT, AICTE Headquarters, New Delhi, C-DAC, Pune University, Maharashtra, and other institutions enriched the seminar through their insightful deliberations and diverse perspectives.
The seminar was graced by Dr. Dharmender Kumar, Deputy Director, CSTT, and Professor Hitendra Kumar Mishra, Hon’ble Chairman, CSTT, whose leadership and guidance contributed significantly to the successful organization of the event. Dr. Giridhar Rao, Academic Coordinator, Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, New Delhi, played an important role in the collaborative initiative. The event was efficiently coordinated by Er. J. S. Rawat, Assistant Director; Dr. Shahzad Ahmad Ansari, Assistant Director; and Akash Mohan Rawat, Assistant Scientific Officer, CSTT.
Representing KIIT & KISS, Dr. Sujata Acharya, Dean, School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology, KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, who was invited by CSTT as an Expert from Odisha along with experts from different States representing the 22 official Indian languages. Dr. Acharya has been associated with the preparation of scientific and technical terminology as a Language Expert in Electronics and as a Subject Expert and Coordinator in Economics. Her participation provided an opportunity to place the linguistic and academic perspectives of Odisha on a national platform and contribute to the larger discourse on developing meaningful, standardized and accessible terminology in Indian languages.
It is noteworthy that KIIT and KISS have had the privilege of hosting CSTT, Ministry of Education, Government of India, for glossary-preparation meetings in six subjects. These academic engagements reflect the institution’s commitment towards promoting Indian languages, Indigenous Knowledge, multilingual education and the objectives of NEP 2020.

The seminar was a meaningful step towards building a uniform, inclusive and learner-friendly scientific and technical vocabulary in Indian languages, strengthening the vision of NEP 2020 and contributing to the creation of a multilingual knowledge ecosystem for the nation.
