Dr. Monalisha Mishra, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at the School of Tribal Resource Management (STRM), Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University, has been awarded the prestigious Young Researcher Award – 2024 by the Institute of Scholars (InSc), Bengaluru, India.
This esteemed recognition celebrates Dr. Mishra’s exceptional contributions to geographical and environmental research, particularly her groundbreaking work in coastal risk assessment using geospatial technology. Her award-winning study, “Risk Assessment of Coastal Erosion for Odisha Coast Along Bay of Bengal, India Using Coastal Hazard Wheel Model,”published in GeoJournal, employs the Coastal Hazard Wheel Model to systematically classify and evaluate Odisha’s coastal vulnerability to erosion hazards. This research provides a valuable scientific framework for sustainable coastal zone management and disaster preparedness planning, offering crucial insights into safeguarding one of India’s most ecologically and economically sensitive coastal regions.
Dr. Mishra’s innovative approach in leveraging geospatial tools to address real-world environmental challenges reinforces KISS-DU’s academic and research prominence on both national and international platforms.
While sharing her achievement, Dr. Mishra remarked that since this research work is on coastal hazards, this will be highly beneficial for KISS-DU as it is in sync with one of the core objectives of KISS which is to work on disaster risk mitigation and management, she added.
The KISS-DU fraternity proudly congratulates Dr. Monalisha Mishra on her remarkable accomplishment and wishes her continued success in her future research endeavors.
