The five-day marathon workshop on ‘Research Methodology and Hands-on Learning’, organized by the School of Tribal Resource Management, KISS-DU, concluded on 6th August 2021. Speaking on the concluding day, Professor Surender Mor, Professor of Economics, Bhagat Phool Singh Women University (BPS), Sonipat explained about citations and referencing style; and use of Mendeley for managing citations and references. In his detailed presentation, Prof. Mor also touched upon plagiarism and explained in-text and end-text citation formats.

“Without proper citation and referencing there are thin chances that your article will be published,” he said, elaborating that citation is not required in cases of common knowledge. Talking about the benefits of Mendeley, a free web and desktop reference management application, he stated, it is highly collaborative, user-friendly, and used in setting up, organizing, and cataloging a digital library. He also handed out names of various search engines to fish for research articles online.

Taking a session on ‘Advance Researching Tools, Platforms, and Research Collaborations’ on Day-4 of the workshop, Prof. Mor gave insights into the difference between Academic Research and Industrial Research. He covered the concepts of objectivity, mentoring, carefulness, confidentiality, transparency, openness, no-discrimination, intellectual property rights, plagiarism, social responsibility, honesty, and integrity. He accentuated the significance of registering on key platforms like Google Scholar, ResearchGate, SCOPUS, and Web of Science. Prof. Mor specializes in Quantitative Techniques, Microfinance, Entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence, and Environmental Economics.

The Day-3 of the workshop was graced by Dr. Manoj Dash, Associate Professor, Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (ABV-IIITM), who took sessions on ‘Data Collection and Data Visualization-Analysis of Data and Techniques’ and ‘Writing Research Papers; Publication Ethics-Patent, Copyright, and Plagiarism’. He also discussed strategies on how to communicate research papers and writing from the reviewer’s perspective to ensure smooth publication.

The sessions were immensely interactive. The event was streamed live on YouTube via https://kiss.ac.in/youtube/live. Prof. Jugal Kishore Mishra, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) summed up the gist of the five days of the workshop and delivered the concluding remarks. Among others, Dr. Snigdharani Panda, Dean, School of Tribal Resource Management, KISS-DU, and faculty members, Dr. Parikhita Khatua, Dr. Liji Panda and Dr. Sanjita Kumari Devi also spoke on different days of the workshop.
