The NSS volunteers of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences(KISS University) visited the Bhalunka village for community survey on 14th April 2022. Odisha has the third largest population of Scheduled tribe in India.Bhalunka is a tribal village adopted by KISS University. Bhalunka is a Village in Chandaka Tehsil, Khordha district of Odisha state.Every year the students of NSS team they visit the village with various purposes to organize health camp,plantation programme,awareness programs,cleaning and survey too.Bhalunka village consists of mainly three tribal groups that areBhumija,Munda and Sabra.
DEMOGRAPHIC STRUCTURE:
The table describes the overall picture of Bhalunka village in Khordha district. Through the door to door survey the students/volunteers found that the total population of Bhalunka village is 501 in 2022(data through field survey).The village consists of two clusters and 95 households. Out of 501 the male population of Bhalunka village is 252 and female population is 249.The sex ratio of the village is 988.09 includes both the males and females.
TRIBAL POPULATION WITH LITERACY RATE:
In the survey it found that there are mainly three tribal groups among them 27 belongs toBhumijas, 42 are Mundas and 26 are Sabar tribes. The volunteers of NSS team also studied about literacy rate among them.The literacy rate is good comparison to other tribal groups .The table no -01 shows the totalliteracy rate is 67.06%.
SOURCE OF INCOME/OCCUPATION:
The various occupation follows by the tribal groups in this village are engaged with agricultural,labouring work as daily wage labour.The people engaged with government jobs, few of them have their shops. The study also shows that there are the people who are unemployed.
This community survey help to discover the people’s attitude, opinions, experiences and needs. It gives a better understanding about the community culture, lifestyles. The NSS volunteers are very much interested to work in the community.
