Bhima Bhoi Research Chair, KISS-DU Organizes a field visit to Malbiharpur: Adyadhama of Mahima Dharma(Banki)

Professor Harischandra Sahoo, Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi Research Chair organized a field visit to Malbiharpur (Banki) on 1st September 2024. The Mahima Gaddi is located near Ansupa Lake. This Mahima Temple was constructed by the king of Tigiria, Raja Saheb Sudarshan Kshetriya Birabara Champati Singha Das Mohapatra in 1918 and it took 3 years to be completed. It is a temple of 33 feet high with an entrances gate with oftquoted line of Bhima Bhoi as follows:

(Oh Lord! I extend both of my hands on to thee, You are the Lord of the entire Universe, the Saviour of the helpless. I seek your blessings for the removal of  my obstacles.)

It is considered to be the Adya Lilakhetra Mahima Gosain. The Sunnya Mandira (Temple) has an entrance gate. It is a holy Dhuni Pitha having Anahata Dhuni Mandir; Mahima Swami as a wondering mendicant used to move to different places but coming back from his tour, he used to take rest here. Hundreds of devotees have been initiated to Mahima cult by Mahima Gosain. After the initiation to the fold, the devotees go back to their village for spreading of the new religion, thereby it became a religion of the mass. Every year, Dharma Mahasabha (Mahima Religious Conference) was organised here and there was detailed discussion on the pros and cons of Mahima Religion. Prof. Sahoo has a lively discussion with Baba Hrudananda Das who is the in-charge of the matha and Sanatan Baba. He was presented with a copy of the book entitled Adya Dham O Mahima Dharma compiled by a devotee called Rama Chandra Behera of Malbiharpur Village.

Bhima Bhoi Research Chair Organizes a field visit to Naraj Mahima Tungi

Professor Harishchandra Sahoo, Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi Research Chair, KISS-DU, visited a Mahima Ashram on 1st September 2024, which was established by Ghana Baba, who happened to be the disciple of Alekh Mahima Swami. There were three monks: Ghana Baba (Guru), Hari Baba (disciple), and Giri Baba (disciple). The ashram has a big campus, which is taken care of by the people staying on the campus. As reported, a school was running inside this campus but it was observed that the campus needs attention. A Tamil devotee Ramji is currently staying in this campus.

Bhima Bhoi Research Chair Professor visits Kalarahanga

Professor H. Sahoo Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi Research Chair KISS-DU visited to Biswaprashidha Mahima Gabesana Kendra at Kalarahanga which is 5 kms away from Bhubaneswar city on 22nd August 2024. This ashram is taken care by Ramesh Chandra Das (Ramesh Baba)who gave a detailed description of origin and growth of Mahima Dharma. He explained how Mahima Swami had Atmajoga Samadhi and established many Mahima Ashrams in Khandagiri, Patia, Badagada and Kalarahanga. This Gaddi has marked its excellence by publishing regularly Research Journals and books on Bhima Bhoi and Mahima Dharma and organises annual function by inviting reputed scholars and researchers on Mahima Dharma.

Bhima Bhoi Research Chair organizes Field Visit to Trisulia

Bhima Bhoi Chair Professor, KISS-DU visited to Alekha Brahma Dhuni Mandira Village- Kosinda (Baranga) near Trisulia. He had the chance to discuss with sadhu Gadadhar Das who manages daily affairs of this Mahima Ashram. , the renu (holy dust) of Mahima Swami fell on this village while moving from Khandagiri to Kapilas mountains. The tungi has been set up since 1976 whereas the Dhuni Mandira has been set up since 1978. Every year seminars, Dhuni and Annual Function are being celebrated in the mouth of Falguna sukla, 7th tithi to mark the day. Besides that lies the sadhu Bhagabat Das of Munda Muhana Ashrama which is a little far away from this place is also closely associated with this ashram to assist different activities like Bhajanas, Kirtans, Akhanda Ghrita Bali, Brahma DhiniSthapana etc. Both the ashrams take care of old and destitutes by giving medical care food and shelter. These two tungi’s have developed orchards with medicinal plants for the protection of environment.

Bhima Bhoi Research Chair, KISS-DU conducts Field Tour to Daruthenga, Bhubaneswar

A team comprising research scholars Mr. Nisikantha Nayak and Laxmimani Mahji headed by Bhima Bhoi, Chair Professor, KISS-DU Professor Harischandra Sahoo conducted a field study to Mahima Gaddi at Daruthenga on 14th August 2024. It is famous for the Samadhi Pitha of Govinda Baba, the first disciple of Mahima Swami. Now the Gaddi is taken care by Baba Purna Chandra Mohanty. Besides the Samadhi, it has a Bhajan Mandapa and a Bhikhya Mandap named after Jayakrishna Baba. The Gaddi is situated at the outskirt of Daruthenga Village situated in north Bhubaneswar.

Field Tour to Mahima Gaddi at Andharua in Bhubaneswar

As a part of the field visit on 14th August 2004, the Research team further moved to Andharua (Bhubaneswar) located at the hill top of Padamapada mountain. This was conducted to delve deeper into the rituals and practices being followed at the MahimaGaddi Mandira. The team interacted with the Babas and gained insights into the various rituals of the temple. They had in depth conversation with  Tyagi Pabitra Mohan Das, Dharanidhar and Sushanta kumar Das. This Gaddi was established by Jayakrishna Baba. As the legend goes – Mahima Swami had  Atma-Yoga- Samadhi here for twenty One days and his sadhana was safe guarded by two disciples like Govinda Baba and Nrusingha Baba as gate keepers.The team discussed about the day-to-day life of the Mahima Sadhus

KISS-DU’s Bhima Bhoi Research Chair Participates in a National Seminar on “Mahima Dharma: Texts and Contexts”

 

Professor Harisschandra Sahoo, Chair Professor Bhima Bhoi Research Chair represented KISS-DU by participating in the National Seminar on “Mahima Dharma: Texts and Contexts” organized by Bhima Bhoi Research Chair Gangadhar Meher University. A field trip to Kandara near Kadaligarh was also organized on the occasion. He also presented books on Bhima Bhoi to Hon’ble Education Minister Shri Rohit Pujari in the presence of Professor N Nagaraju Vice Chancellor Gangadhar Meher University and Professor Kalidas Mishra, among others.

A state-Level Seminar was organized by the Department of Odia Maharshi College, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Odia Bhasa Sahitya Pratisthan Bhubaneswar on 27.03.2023. The theme of the seminar was “Bhima Bhoi’s Contribution to Odia Language & Literature”. Professor Harischandra Sahoo, Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi Research Chair, KISS-DU was invited as one of the esteemed speakers to address the gathering along with eminent speakers Professor Dhaneswar Sahoo, Dr. Fanidra Bhusan Nanda and Professor Premananda Mohapatra. The Principal of the College, Dr. Nalini Prava Mohapatra extended a warm welcome to the guests and later during the course of the seminar, Professor Shankar Lal Purohit, Retd. Professor of Hindi was felicitated for his outstanding contribution in translating Bhima Bhoi’s magnum opus, ‘Stuti-Chintamani’ to Hindi language. The meeting was cordinated by Prof. Sasanka Chudamani, the Head of Department of Odia, Maharshi College. Additionally, the book on Bhima Bhoi titled Divyadrasta Bhima Bhoi edited by Prof. H.C. Sahoo, Research Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi Rseaerch Chair, KISS-DU was also displayed in the meeting as areflection of the research works conducted by KISS-DU on the life and works of Bhima Bhoi. Dr. Lakhyahira Mohanty offered a vote of thanks.

Professor Harischandra Sahoo, Chair Professor, Bhima Bhoi Research Chair was invited to participate in a distinguished lecture was held in the Department of Philosophy B.J.B. (Autonomous) College on the theme “The facets of Indian Philosophy”. The seminar was presided over by Prof. A Khan the Principal, B.J.B. (A) college.
