The Department of Chemistry, School of Indigenous Knowledge, Science and Technology (IKST), KISS-DU, organized a Distinguished Invited Lecture on ‘Role of Scientific Services Activity in an Integrated Steel Plant’ on 11th May 2025, in observance of National Technology Day .
The distinguished invited speaker, Mr. Jagannath Sahoo, Senior Area Manager (Technology & Scientific Services), TATA STEEL, was introduced by the Convener Dr. Bikram Keshari Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, School of IKST, KISS-DU, as a seasoned industry expert with rich professional experience in scientific and technological services in the steel sector.
Mr. Sahoo delivered an enlightening presentation focused on the importance of scientific services in enhancing the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of integrated steel plants. He elaborated on the role of technology-driven analytics, quality control, process optimization and laboratory based research in ensuring high standards of production. Emphasizing the relevance of scientific insights in day-to-day industrial operations, he illustrated how strategic interventions in scientific services can lead to substantial improvements in output and innovation within the steel industry.
He also discussed the collaborative potential between academia and industry, encouraging young scholars and researchers to pursue application-oriented studies that address real world industrial challenges. The lecture inspired students to explore career opportunities in industrial research and development, particularly in sectors like steel manufacturing where science and engineering intersect meaningfully.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students and faculty members actively engaged with the speaker.
